Blue Haunted Fish is our Band of the Day

April 27, 2015

Today’s Band of the Day comes from Bogota, Colombia. They are Blue Haunted Fish and they are a welcome breath of fresh rock n roll air. They bring out a very alternative modern edge to their music, infusing it with theatrical elements that not only captivate you, but have you instantly addicted. I love the creativity this band brings to their music. They are forging ahead creating their own signature sound and style. Vocals are powerful and emotive and you can check them out further on their acoustic sessions. They are currently recording new music and we will keep you updated on what is next for this band. Otherwise prove they are a set not to miss, Catch them out on tour!

April 26, 2015

Otherwise have been quite busy with their extensive tour in support of their highly well received album, Peace At All Costs. The album has been solidly on our daily playlist since it’s release, definitely proving it is a MUST HAVE!  We recently caught Otherwise as they performed in Modesto at the Fat Cat with We Are Harlot. It was a night of straight up non-stop rock and roll.   Otherwise came out with a 150% energy and the crowd went wild. Adrian is such an amazing frontman and connects so well with the audience. They played all our favorite tracks and for their last song, Soldiers the energy was insurmountable as Adrian took to the crowd and everyone joined in the song. Absolutely stellar performance. Corky was a madman on the drums and the stage presence from Ryan, Andrew and Toby had your eyes darting across the stage trying to capture glimpses of their adrenaline fueled playing.  They are currently out on tour and I would strongly urge you to make sure you don’t miss them if [Read More]

Concert Review: Against Me! with Caves and Roger Harvey in Munich by Alexandra

April 23, 2015

Concert Review by Alexandra Bock Against Me! with Caves and Roger Harvey Backstage – Halle Munich, April 21, 2015   After having to postpone the tour in November/December 2014, Against me! finally came back to Germany and they also made a stop in Munich last Tuesday. Opening act was a punk band from the UK called ‘Caves’. Often the opening acts play only for a smaller group of people because most fans only come shortly before the main act is supposed to play. Not so this time. The venue was already crowded when they started their set. Caves is a three piece punk band from Bristol UK. They played a dynamic set with tons of songs (all about 2 minutes long) and almost no stops in between. Their latest release is called ‘Leaving’. You can listen to it or better yet, download it, at http://caves.bandcamp.com/.   Main support was Roger Harvey. His music is best described as guitar rock, which didn’t fit the punk bill entirely, but nevertheless was a great set. It might have [Read More]

Irene Diaz at Hotel Cafe:  a new queen of love songs for a new generation. By Patrick O’Heffernan

April 23, 2015

Every generation has its love songs and the lovers who sing them. Our parents swayed and swooned to Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, early Elvis and Ella Fitzgerald. In the 60’s and 70’s it was, among others, Roberta Flack, Barbara Streisand, Nina Simone and of course , The Righteous Brothers with the unforgettable “Unchained Melody”. In the 80’s and 90’s John Lennon, Savage Garden, and Amy Grant reminded us of humanity’s strongest emotion, as did Norah Jones, Rhianna, Drake and Alicia Keyes as the century turned.  Now, a new star of the love song is rising, serenading a new generation, Irene Diaz who serenaded an enthralled crowd at the Hotel Café last night. I have been following Irene Diaz for almost two years starting with seeing her perform in a converted church in Santa Monica to last night’s performance in Hollywood.   During that time I have been entranced by her voice and her classically-trained piano skills. And I have watched her grow in confidence, beauty and skill and seen her audiences grow commensurately.  [Read More]
