DORYDRIVE

Just last month we told you about the addictive new album by DoryDrive, an alternative rock/pop band from Nashville. You can read more about the album in that earlier post here. The new album, Here’s To You is fantastic from start to finish and is making an impact on listeners. DoryDrive is Mathieu Nevitt on Vocals, Tom LaBrosse on Guitar, Henry Koller on Guitar, Nick Mendini on Bass and Joey Zak on Drums.

Music Junkie Press:  Thank you so much for taking the time out to talk with us here at Music Junkie Press.  First we wanted to tell you that we love your new album “Here’s To You”. We love the title track, can you tell me a bit more about the songs and the inspiration behind it and the album?

Mathieu Nevitt: Inspiration comes from all different angles for this band! Each one of us have had a positive impact on this album. Personal I am in a very good place in life and the lyrical content does reflect that. I think we would all agree that we are trying to convey a positive message to all who listen. We love all genres of music and have made sure to incorporate that love into every song!

Music Junkie Press:  Your love of music genres definitely shines through. How did the name of the band Dory Drive come up or is it named after a particular place?

Mathieu Nevitt:  We named the band after the street we formed in Nashville, TN.

Music Junkie Press:  So it is an actual road! I understand you are currently touring and maybe half way through the tour, how has it been going? Any tour highlights or stories you can share with us?

Mathieu Nevitt: The tour has been very positive thus far. We have hit a lot of markets we have been playing for years. The hype seems to be growing and we are being introduced to new fans nightly. We are excited to see the reaction in our newer radio markets. The weather has been fantastic and the moral high!

Music Junkie Press:  Will you be planning a West Coast tour soon? California needs you!

Mathieu Nevitt: Unless we pick up some major radio markets your way! Trust me we are eager to hit the West Coast!

Music Junkie Press:  We are hoping to get you you guys out here to California! We at Music Junkie Press are very strong believers about how music can heal, help, inspire and move, do you remember a particular time where music was there to help you the most? Can you share the story with us?

Mathieu Nevitt: I remember breaking down more than once to the song Man in the Mirror! I had had a horrible drug dependency and had actually overdosed and been declared clinically dead. I found myself at home staring at my sunken face and battered skin. The only thing I could think of was giving up and getting high again. As I opened my drawer to read for my stash the song began to play. I immediately broke to tears, losing my breath and fell to the ground. I have been clean for seven years now!

Music Junkie Press:  Another great song is the amazing track, Gravity. Can you tell us a bit more about that one?

Mathieu Nevitt: Your Gravity is our movie credit blockbuster. My inspiration was feeding off that awkward moment of your first kiss.

Music Junkie Press:  All of your songs are great and filled with emotion and passion. Do you have  a particular song of yours that is more special to you or you are more emotionally attached to?

Mathieu Nevitt: I enjoy the rawness of When the Lights Burn Out. It was a song that had been written and re written many times in my basement. Originally I had envisioned a song that would be the bands anthem to the road. Honestly I had some very powerful lyrics, but feared the song may seem pretentious. Although I have been touring professionally for the better part of my adult life, new listeners would not know that. A song of the magnitude I was writing would have been taken wrong, and put a shadow over the band in my opinion. In the end I used my situation to build a song for those who long to be together.

Music Junkie Press:  That is great how the song worked out, it is definitely one of the stand out tracks. If DORYDRIVE could put together their dream lineup, what three bands (living or dead, together or broken up) would you put on the bill with you?

Mathieu Nevitt: Since we have five members we are going to turn this into a 5 band imaginary bill.

Aerosmith, Zak Wylde, John Cougar Mellencamp, NIN, Def Leopard

Music Junkie Press:  That would be a wild show, a must see!! If you could take any song from a completely different genre and cover it and make it in your own style, what might that song be?

Mathieu Nevitt: We have already been fortunate enough to do this! On our first release we paid for the writes to perform and sell Dirty Diana by Michael Jackson. You can still grab a free copy with the purchase of our new cd at our live shows!

Music Junkie Press:  I didn’t know that, I am going to have to pick up a copy now!  Who were some of the most influential musicians for you? What was your first concert you ever went to?

Mathieu Nevitt: Our families have always been our greatest inspiration. The first concert I can actually remember was the Rush Counterparts Tour with Primus at the Peoria civic center. I was in 8th grade at the time. The lighting and sound drew my attention while watching Neal Pert through binoculars during Rush’s set. Amazing! I have always been a drummer at heart!

Music Junkie Press:  If we could peak into your Ipod, what artist or song might we be most surprised at finding in there?

Mathieu Nevitt: I listen to everything from Boston, Katy Perry, Michael Jackson to The Band Perry.

Music Junkie Press:  Once again your love of music, all styles of music shines through, a true musician! Lastly, what would you like to share with your fans and audience?

Mathieu Nevitt: Your support is paramount! Continue to spread the word and support live music whenever you can!
