Papa Roach cancels South American tour due to Jacoby’s strained vocal chords

Papa Roach

Vocal issues have plagued lead singer Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach for some time now. It was last year that he spoke about a node forming on his vocal chord and which eventually led him to  have surgery. He successfully recovered from that surgery and has gone on to kick ass at shows with his incredible voice. He truly is one of my favorite vocalists!

Papa Roach just released a statement announcing suspension of their South American tour dates due to Jacoby Shaddix’s strained vocal chords. Here is the post from their Facebook page:

“To our fans in South America, we are sorry to say our tour is canceled. Jacoby is having vocal issues, and has been ordered to rest. We will be rescheduling the tour for next year. – Jerry”

It was not long for fans to show their shock, support and even some quite rude and irrational comments that led to Jacoby himself adding this post:

“TO ALL THE SOUTH AMERICAN FANS…….
I write this with a heavy heart. I have read a lot of posts about how you feel about us canceling our shows in S.A……….some are positive and some are extremely negative. ( Some went as far as saying we should die) WTF???!!! Trust me I would love to not have to deal with these vocal chord issues at all. Don’t forget I am a HUMAN not a MACHINE. When a guitar string breaks you change it but when a vocal chord breaks time and silence is the ONLY thing that heals it. I pray to GOD I don’t have to have surgery again. If you know anything about ME and PAPA ROACH is we always give it 100 percent. Sometimes that 100 percent breaks us. I would LOVE nothing more than to be in South America playing these shows. My HEART goes out to the people that bought bus and plane tickets to come see us. Your NOT ALONE we bought tickets down there too. (that are not refundable as well) As far as the money goes we would love to be able to do the shows in South America and get paid. In fact we are losing a ton of money by not going. But, my HEALTH comes first. I am doing the best I can. But in this case to some of you fans my best Is not good enough. I PRAY that you find it in your hearts to understand. And trust me we will reschedule and come to SOUTH AMERICA as soon as we can. I got nothin but love for ya!!!!!

Yeah I know I didn’t write in all caps this time… (Double clicking the CAPS sign over and over sucks HAHA)
LOVE,
JACOBY”

I can’t imagine them having to deal with some upset fans. These people just as Jacoby says are Human, not a Machine. They get sick, injured or have unfortunate circumstances. People need to realize that the band member’s health or personal issues come first, then the music.  I would in no way want a musician/artist risk their  health in order to fulfill a show obligation. It just disgusts me that there are people out there who expect these things.

Earlier in the summer, due to  vocal issues, Papa Roach had to cancel their show in Berlin. They did continue on to play on the next shows but we were still concerned for Jacoby and his voice. During that time Jacoby posted the following photo via Instagram showing how he was dealing with his issues and the following caption:  OXYGEN AND STEROIDS FOR SWOLLEN VOCAL CHORDS!!! THE SHOW MUST GO ON!!!

He mentioned that this is not anything new and he does have to do this about twice a year.

Today, we hope that Jacoby will do whatever he has to do in order to get himself back on the mend.  We need you healthy Jacoby and hope you feel better. We want to keep hearing that damn sexy voice of yours Jacoby so please do take it easy!

We will be seeing Papa Roach as they play the Aftershock Festival in September in Sacramento. We can’t wait to see them again as we are still loving their latest album, The Connection.  You can pick up your copy straight from their Merch site that also has some cool shirts or you can head over it Itunes and download  the deluxe edition.

I will leave you now with Papa Roach’s new video for “Leader of the Broken Hearts” off of their album, The Connection.  ~ Marisol
