With their new record “Radiant” The Sleeper delivered the perfect package for fans of modern metalcore. Breakneck riffs, rousing refrains, and merciless breakdowns – The Sleeper do without genre conventions and deliver their very own sound. The previous singles “Coven“, “Dull Knife“, “Haven“, “The Sword Logic” and “Premonitions” already provided a foretaste of what metal fans can expect with “Radiant”.
With the record release, the band also introduced their newest single “Tempest”.
The Leipzig band The Sleeper was founded by drummer Richard Petzl and former Narziss singer Steven Jost. After guitarists Johann Petzl and Philipp Mundus and bassist Eric Mittmann joined, producer Simon Hawemann (Nightmarer, War From A Harlots Mouth) went into the studio. Released via Swell Creek Records, the debut album Aurora saw the light of day in 2013.
Thereafter, the then quintet focused on playing gigs and earning a reputation as an excellent live band. Over the last few years The Sleeper shared the stage with bands such as In Hearts Wake, Deez Nuts, War From A Harlots Mouth, Final Prayer, For The Fallen Dreams, Walking Dead On Broadway, Frontierer and Thy Art Is Murder. Highlights of the band’s history to date have included participation in the Euroblast Festival in Cologne in 2017 and the Summerbreeze Festival in 2018.
In the same year, the six-song EP “Apparatus” saw the light of day via ASTAT Entertainment, on which The Sleeper explored the limits of their musical creativity. Melodic arrangements meet raw heaviness and lots of emotion. Coupled with a modern sound that John Browne (Monuments, FluxConduct, Fellsilent) gives the band, a rousing conceptual work was created in which the Leipzigers deal with topics such as emotional alienation, the pursuit of eternal youth and health, and powerlessness in the face of human mortality.
Electrified by the success of the EP, The Sleeper went in the studio in 2019 with guitarist Christoph Wieczorek (Annisokay, Sawdust Studios) to record the single “Swan Dive“, which they released in the same year on their own. Shortly thereafter, keyboarder Christian Kinne joined the band, and the recordings of album number two began, which was recorded in August 2020 – again together with Christoph Wieczorek – and released last Friday.
