To get everyone geared up and head to their high energy performances, SHINING have released the live footage of their set from the 2013 Øya Festival.  Frontman Jørgen Munkeby commented, “One thing that sets our live shows apart from albums is our extended, improvised transitions between songs, and this show has some of the coolest improvised sections. Just check out the last songs, ‘HEALTER SKELTER’ and ’21st Century Schizoid Man!‘”  Check out the video here:     The video proves that they are definitely a band you won’t want to miss when they come to your town. The SHINING’s latest release One One One, made several notable “best-of-2013″ lists and was even nominated for the “Metal Album of the Year” Spellemann Award, (comparable to our Grammy awards)  “One One One” features “a corrosive and creative hybrid of industrial vocals and beats, jazz signatures and black metal aesthetics” (Noisey). Up.Rooted. A review of Gina Chavez’s latest album – a musical triumph and a transformational experience.

April 7, 2014

Up.Rooted. A review of Gina Chavez’s latest album – a musical triumph and a transformational experience. With Up.Rooted, Gina Chavez has established herself as the Joan Baez of her generation.   We are now seeing an emergence of second and third generation Latin musicians who were raised at home in Spanish  with cumbia and reggaeton and bosa nova and in school in English with rock and rap and blues and jazz.  They are creating a new genre – Gringo-Latin pop, Latino-white folk, Latin fusion – it goes by many names because it hasn’t gelled enough to have one name.  The young men and women who are creating this new genre bring something else to the table besides bi-lingual musical forms, human stories and a social conscious.  They sing songs of immigrant abuse, of NAFTA, of homelessness, of human rights.  They are to the 21st century what Joan Baez, Phil Ochs, Aretha Franklin and Bob Dylan were to the war in Vietnam and the US Civil Rights movement.  Gina Chavez is one of the artists leading [Read More]

Blackwülf from Oakland deliver a heavy dose of rock at the DNA Lounge

April 6, 2014

Opening up for Swedish rockers, Truckfighters was a great heavy rock band from Oakland. Blackwülf put on an incredible set at the DNA Lounge last month. I was glad to have caught them live since I had heard about them but never had the opportunity to see them live. Blackwülf have a great heavy deep rock sound reminiscent of Tool or Alice In Chains but with more edge/blues in their guitars that I love and a grunge feel to the vocals!  They really put on an excellent show and I am looking forward to more Bay Area shows. Check out the tribute video that Rockin Ryan made with footage and photos from their San Francisco set:   You can pick up their new Limited Edition 12″ Red Vinyl of Mind Traveler as well as some cool merchandise on their website here: www.blackwulfusa.com  Also make sure to visit their social media sites and stay up to date if they have any shows near you. They are a band, you don’t want to miss! ~ Marisol Information & Links: Website: www.blackwulfusa.com [Read More]

They currently have four albums that go back to their first 2002 with Smugglers Run and most recently Storm Will Pass. Their music is available on Itunes or you can check out their webstore here.  You will really love their style, imagine if Bob Marley teamed up with Sublime and added a bit of Earth Wind & [Read More]

William Control delivers a cinematic musical masterpiece with Neuromancer

April 3, 2014

What began as a side project of Wil Francis as he embarked to create an outlet of music which was quite different than that of Aiden. With that, William Control was born and I am glad that it grew with a magical life of it’s own and became his focus, hence I will refer to Wil Francis as William Control. Out NOW! The release of William Control‘s latest album, Neuromancer. If you are familiar with William Control, this album is the prelude to his previous works; Hate Culture, Noir and Silentium Amoris which all tell the tale of the nihilistic suicidal William Control. It all started with Hate Culture where the young man embarks on a last night of sex, sin and debauchery before he attempts to kill himself. How did this man get this way? What brought him to that edge? What is his story of how he became the screw up that he is?  Well, that is where Neuromancer comes in. This album is a prelude to Hate Culture and you are able to really get to know [Read More]
