Take a listen to the new single, We Belong Together from KC and The Sunshine Band

August 3, 2016

KC and The Sunshine Band premiered the audio of their new single, “We Belong Together,” on PerezHilton.com today. The song is the latest in an iconic four decade career that has promoted love, unity and happiness through music. Penned by Harry Wayne “KC” Casey, “We Belong Together” captured what the Grammy Award winner was feeling when he first heard the track. KC comments, “I remember, I had just met someone, and it was right at that beginning stage when just the sound of their name gives you butterflies. It was around the time my namesake Casey Naymen, who is a DJ and the son of my close friend Larry, brought me this track and ‘We Belong Together’ was born. It came from that feeling of just wanting to be with someone, and knowing you belong with this person.” Check out the new track here: You can catch KC and the Sunshine band out on tour: KC and The Sunshine Band on Tour:AUG 4 – SYCUAN CASINO – EL CAJON, CA             AUG 5 – SYCUAN CASINO – EL CAJON, CA            AUG 13 – [Read More]

Essence releases Black Wings, an album that reminds us why we are human. By Patrick O’Heffernan

August 1, 2016

(Los Angeles). I often say that poetry is not dead, it is all around us but we just call it lyrics now.  That applies in spades to Black Wings, the new album released this week by essence, the San Francisco-based Americana/folk/blues/rock/pop singer who goes only by her first (and given) name.  Back Wings is a deeply poetic and musically addictive quarry of the dissolution of essence’s decade-long marriage.  Listening to it is like orbiting the dark side of the moon:  you are joyfully lost in the eternity of the universe, but you are tethered to the shadows of the reality below. Either way the experience is mystical and forever memorable.  It is no wonder that essence won the grand prize in the Lilith Talent Search and came in second, ahead of 20,000 other entrants, in the international Contest.   Black Wings is a dozen song that quarry the intimate agonies and lingering fossils of essence’s divorce. The songs are not in chronological order – they don’t proceed from discovering  her man’s unfaithfulness and the stages [Read More]

Allison Iraheta and Halo Circus are out on tour in support of their highly acclaimed debut album, Bunny. In case you missed our review by Patrick O’Heffernan of the album, you can read it here.  Patrick comments about the album, Bunny by Halo Circus may be the most important record of the year,  and perhaps the decade. I don’t say that easily.  I say it because Bunny by Halo Circus is not only a musical triumph, but it uniquely exemplifies and transcends the demographic and cultural change overtaking the United States, the emergence of a new American Latino generation.  This change is a revolution of Millennials and Allison Iraheta and her band Halo Circus is both the spear tip of that revolution and its future, present before us. Halo Circus sings in the key of the second largest Spanish-speaking nation in [Read More]

Discovering Americana and the Roots of Rock ‘n’ Roll

August 1, 2016

I have always loved a mix of musical styles. I guess that is what brought me to my current interest in Americana music. Americana pulls from the varied traditions and genres that have developed in America.  The Americana Music Association defines it as “contemporary music that incorporates elements of various American roots music styles, including country, roots-rock, folk, bluegrass, R&B and blues, resulting in a distinctive roots-oriented sound that lives in a world apart…” I just define it as all that American style music that I love! Being a big fan of live music, I had wanted for some time to attend the Americana Music Festival and Conference in Nashville. This last year provided the opportunity to do this and also along the way discover some of the roots of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Memphis Roots I actually began my journey to the Americana Fest in the city of Memphis. As soon as you walk off the airplane in Memphis, you know where you are, with signs and banners reading – the “Home of the [Read More]
