I told you earlier this year about an incredible rock band from New York, Nasty Habit that has a rock and roll passion that is non stop. They have a high energy ’80s style rock sound that you will grab you when you first listen to their songs like Heart Breakin, Hip Shakin, Saturday Night, and Tripped. Nasty Habit has Tommy Ende on lead vocals, Kenny Ende on guitar, David Jordan on drums, and Frankie Wheeler on bass.

When I first heard Nasty Habit, they completely renewed my faith in the younger generation to keep true rock and roll alive. Nasty Habit will make sure that Rock and Roll is here to stay! In order for this hard working, self funded, self managed band to continue putting out this KILLER ROCK n ROLL without a record label, they need your help! As you know from the past, I am a big believer and backer of bands utilizing the Kickstarter campaigns. Well, this time I want you to join me in supporting these rockers as they work to produce and make their next EP appropriately titled, “Desperate Times, Desperate Measures”. They have my favorite sounds from the ’80s which I love. They kind of remind me of a mix of White Lion/Poison and with the groove of Bullet Boys! These guys are going to blow your mind away as you take a listen and think you are listening to an old reel left from an 80’s recording studio. They not only have the sound, but these guys rock the look as well. When I first saw them I thought they must have been dropped of by Marty McFly in his DeLorean as he plucked them from the Sunset Strip from 1985. They are definitely a band that you will be hearing more of here in 2013 and don’t miss them at Rocklahoma 2013.

We had a chance to catch up with Nasty Habit for a quick interview. First we want you to check out one of their videos:

Music Junkie Press: How did the band form?

David Jordan: Nasty Habit was formed in the earlier years in between 2009-2010. Kenny Ende, Tommy Ende and I (David Jordan) have been playing together for quite some time and it wasn’t too long after that we brought aboard this missing piece to our rhythm section, Frankie Wheeler.

Music Junkie Press: What is your current album out and what can we expect from Nasty Habit in 2013?

David Jordan: Right now, we are scheduled for a North American tour from NYC – ROCKLAHOMA in May for the release of our self titled album, NASTY HABIT. Fans can expect for NH to be playing with band like Guns N Roses, Alice in Chains, Papa Roach, Bullet for my Valentine, and more to come soon!

Music Junkie Press: Rig Rundown: Can you tell us about your favorite gear you like to play on tour?

David Jordan: oh sure, well we are big fans of vintage instrument for the simple fact they they aren’t made the same now! Kenny, my axe man, enjoys shredding Kramer guitars and Fender Strats while Frankie likes to play BC Rich. on the other hand, I play Ludwig drums that resonate for days and adds a whole other layer of thunder to the live show.

Music Junkie Press: Do you have any favorite albums growing up that really influenced you to pursue your dream in music?

David Jordan: Everyone in the the band had grown up with a family full of musicians, and were always influenced by the daily living of loud music. Some of our favorite albums include bands like Dr. Feelgood by Motley Crue, Van Halen II by Van Halen, and Boston’s self-titled. Nasty Habit became more than just a band to us; Nasty Habit became a life style and a way of living.

Music Junkie Press: Who does the writing in the band or is there a particular writing process or song writing ritual?

Kenny Ende: Usually either I’ll come up with the bulk of the songs instrumental movements and bring them to Tommy to get his opinion, or he will come up with some lyrics and vocal lines and bring them to me to get my opinion. From there we work together to flesh out the main gist of the song; we focus heavily on vocal melodies and harmonies while trying to keep the songs edgy. Once we feel we like where we’re going with the idea and have the main parts figured out we bring them to Frankie and David to figure out the lacking parts, they help Tommy and I arrange the different parts we’ve brought to them, then we practice it religiously until we are satisfied with it overall. We don’t write anything we cant preform in a live setting.

Music Junkie Press: How about your dream concert? If you could perform with three bands/artists living or dead, who would they be?

Frankie Wheeler: My dream concert would have to be performing with Led Zeppelin, Warrant and I know you said three bands but I can’t decide between Lynch Mob and Badlands because they are both SO DAMN GOOD, so I’m going to cheat and say both! As unrealistic as it is, that would be one hell of a concert.

Music Junkie Press: If you could go back and talk to your 14 year old self, what advice would you give to your 14 year old self?

Tommy Ende: In my particular case it would be mainly about singing! That’s the age that I transitioned from drumming to singing. As a 14 yr old I couldn’t get the Rock N’ Roll sound I wanted so I developed some bad vocal habits, too much of a clenched, gritty sound can be destructive. I’ve since improved on my technique, but if I could, I’d tell my 14 year old self to go take a couple professional lessons from the start and maybe if I could show myself how far I’ve come, it could probably be great inspiration.

Music Junkie Press: We are strong believers that music can heal your soul or just get you through the good and bad times. Do you recall a particular time in your life, where music saved you or help you heal?

Tommy Ende: I’m not sure that I can exactly say its “healed me” or that I’ve used it to cope necessarily. I can definitely say that I use music in my everyday for a variety of reasons. A kick ass Hard Rock song can get me through a workout like nothing else. I can also use it as a means of expression, when you have a concept or fantasy, something that resonates in you, you can portray it creatively and effectively through song.

Music Junkie Press: If we could peak into your Ipod or Playlist, what would be the next three songs on shuffle?

David Jordan: Well lets find out together, let me take out my Spotify palylist here. OK, so the first 3 songs that come up are Lithium by Nirvana, Baba O’ Riley by The Who, and Hotter Than Hell by Airbourne. Some of my favorite tunes to listen too.

Music Junkie Press: If you could take any song from any type of musical genre and remake it into a rock version, what song would it be?

Frankie Wheeler: I’d say “Fun, Fun, Fun” by The Beach Boys. You could categorize this song under “rock” already, but I think it would be an awesome song to turn into “hard rock”. It has great melody and has a very uplifting sound to it. I just picture us juicing it up some and adding a little shredding here and there. It would sound KILLER!

Music Junkie Press: With the 80’s making a comeback and all, if you could pick a song from the 80’s or 90’s to describe your life or be your anthem song, what would it be?

Frankie Wheeler: There are so many answers to this question that my brain is overloading right now! I’d have to go with “We All Die Young” by Steelheart. It’s such a moving song to me. It has a message that I strongly agree with; which is that you only get one life, so why would you want to spend your time sitting behind a desk doing paperwork or cashing people out at your local Wal-Mart? Get out there and take the risk! You know what you really want to be in life, so why don’t you be it?

Music Junkie Press: If Nasty Habit was to become an ice cream flavor, what would it have and why?

Frankie Wheeler: We’d probably end up being some kind of exotic flavor such as Bacon Maple. It’s not as mainstream as Chocolate or Vanilla and people tend to be afraid to try it, but most of the time they end up liking it a whole lot!
