The Smiths + Dexys Midnight Runners and a side of The Cure = Apollo Junction. Great New Music

Leeds Guide Photography by Barnaby Aldrick

Music is always the master of my emotions. If I am feeling down and need to vent, I can always turn to  music to help me through the process. Or if I am feeling good and need music to just energize me and complement my good mood, I put the right songs on to do that.  Well, today I was in one of those where I am literally in a doldrum type of state and went to do some work.  I put on some of the music that was given to me to check out and I have to tell you…. it was like magic… My energy level quickly rose,  I couldn’t help but smile and instantly feel good. I love when music can take you to a great place, especially when it is the first time you hear someone.  Today I have Apollo Junction to thank for the great escape of their music!

These 5 guys from London are really something to listen to.  As their bio describes perfectly, “Apollo Junction born into the 80’s, influenced by the 90’s, bored by the 00’s and here they are.” Definitely are bringing some 90’s sound in to their music but with a fresh new take. They have been getting quite a lot of airplay overseas and I really can’t wait to share them with others here in the US. Apollo Junction is Jaime on Vocals, Matt on Guitars, Jonathan on Drums, Ben on  Bass and Sam on Keys and Synths.

Earlier in June they released their three song self titled EP which you can currently get on Itunes here or Amazon here. On it, you will find the song that I instantly fell in love with, “Begin”.  It is a catchy 90’s inspired song that you can’t help but fall in love with. Endings just really reminds me of my love for The Smiths and The Clash, completely awesome! Almost There gives you another catchy song with intense vocals and anthemic style harmony, think Thompson Twins meets Dexys Midnight Runners. Whatever you want to call it, I LOVE IT!!!

I can’t wait to hear more from them. I will see if I can bring you an interview with them soon. For now I leave you with their latest single and video for, “Such a Carry On” which you can get now on Itunes.  This song brings back to life my love for Robert Smith of The Cure and David Bowie!! It has such a great feel to it, climatic energy dipped in emotion and leaving you in a aha moment. You will love this one, I promise!

~Enjoy, Marisol
