Tuesdays Travels pick of the week is The Sounds from Sweden

This week our Tuesdays Travels pick takes us to Malmo, Sweden. Sweden; the home of IKEA, ABBA and Absolut Vodka. Now we have one more thing to thank Sweden for, the incredible new wave infused rock by The Sounds.  Their music is described as indie rock/new wave but I think they can’t be categorized since they have a sound all on their own. The female fronted vocalist, Maja Ivarsson reminds me of a mix of Terri Nunn and Debbie Harry.  Their songs are energetic and fun and will have you moving and enjoying life within seconds of listening. The Sounds is Maja Ivarsson on Vocals, Felix Rodriguez on Guitars/Vocals, Johan Bengtsson on Bass, Jesper Anderberg on Keys/Guitar/Vocals and Fredrik Blond on Drums. The Sounds recently released their album, “Weekend” on October 29th, 2013 and it is spectacular. William Control’s “Revel Without a Cause” Tour is one not to be MISSED!

Last night was the first night for the Revel Without a Cause Tour by William Control and I have been counting the days to this one! I have been looking forward to this tour since it’s announcement and William Control once again exceeded my expectations. We got to the show in time to see Fearless Vampire Killers from England and Davey Suicide. Both were amazing sets!  Every time I have seen him perform, whether with Aiden or with Black Veil Brides on their tour, he puts on a climatic performance. Being the first show of the tour always can put performers in a rough position as they test out their material, set and also have to deal with what the nightclub’s issues might be. Fearless Vampire Killers and their first US show ever!

Last night was the first night of William Control’s “Revel Without a Cause” Tour. Their first show was held upstairs at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco. Opening for William Control, was British theatrical Alternative Rock band Fearless Vampire Killers, and it was my first time seeing them. They were amazing. This was their first show ever in the United States and they really won over the crowd instantly. Fearless Vampire Killers are Kier Kemp and Laurence Beveridge (co-vocalists), Cyrus Barrone (guitar), Drew Woolnough (bass) and Luke Illingworth (drums). Playing upstairs at the DNA lounge, always provides quite a bit of challenges for the band with space and sound, not to mention being the first night of their tour. Strange Talk from Australia set to play San Francisco Nov. 5th!

Strange Talk, eletropop band from Melbourne, Australia is coming to San Francisco next week!  They will be performing at Brick & Mortar on November 5th, 2013. You can more details on tickets at their website. Strange Talk is set to release their self-produced debut album Cast Away in early 2014 via Wind-Up Records. They have their debut single, “Climbing Walls” is out on radio play now. These guys have a great new refreshing sound. They blend a bit of the eighties pop with a touch of 90’s electro and then wrapped into their own  edgy style. The Pretty Reckless is a crowd pleaser in San Francisco!

Just only a week ago, I was at Slim’s in San Francisco and enjoying the incredible, Russian, British and American band lineup that comprised of Louna, Heaven’s Basement and The Pretty Reckless. You can read our reviews of Louna and Heaven’s Basement here. It was quite a night as these three very different bands came together and gave an amazing show that had the crowd continuously rockin out all night. This was the first time I saw The Pretty Reckless although I did get to enjoy Taylor Momsen as she joined Marilyn Manson on stage for the 2012 Revolver Golden Gods Awards.  I have the footage in the Links below. One thing is for sure The Pretty Reckless has amazing stage presence and their songs are so damn good. I was immediately drawn in and excited to watch  more. Taylor Momsen has stated in the past that her musical influences are Kurt Cobain and Joan Jett and that is exactly what you get with her! Tori Vasquez and her amazing performance at the Fillmore

Last night we covered the Blue October SWAY tour show in San Francisco at the historic Fillmore.  We were treated to an amazing performance by Tori Vasquez. We got to see Tori as she opened for Justin on his Open Book tour earlier this year. At that time, she did an acoustic performance and that was wonderful. Well, last night we had the honor of seeing Tori play with her band and it was spectacular. Her band definitely give out great energy.  When Tori first steps out on stage, she reminded me of a young Linda Ronstadt and when she performs she brings out the Pat Benatar rockstar in her. She has quite a magnetic stage presence and along with her alluring voice, you can’t help but be drawn to her. I miss the ’90s but yet I yearn for something more at the same time a bit darker. Fast forward to today and I have what I am looking for….. Calling all Astronauts! You might describe them as a fusion of everything from electro, indie, punk, goth, and a darker alternative. Today they released a new video for their song, “Red Flag” which is off their new single and is set to release November 4th, 2013.
