Interview with Jason Lollio of Pistol Day Parade

February 4, 2014

Another great band we love is Detroit Rock band, Pistol Day Parade and during NAMM we ran into their bassist, Jason Lollio. Pistol Day Parade has been enjoying the great response from their release of their new album “Burn” last year.  Hailing from Detroit are these hard working rockers who bleed out the passion through their music. Their new album “Burn” released via Goomba Records  was produced by Tim Patalan (Sponge, Lovedrug) at The Loft Studios in Saline, Michigan. Their first song released from the album is Not Today and you can check out the video here:   It was great talking with Jason and we can’t wait to catch these high energy rockers out on tour. Here is our quick video chat with Jason at NAMM 2014.   Make sure to head over and pick up your copy today from Goomba Music Store, Itunes or your local music retailer. You are going to have this one on replay for a while!  When you take a listen you can’t help but be captivated by the [Read More]

Review of Too Worn To Mend by American Beauties from Patrick O’Heffernan

February 4, 2014

Review:  Too Worn To Mend by American Beauties by Patrick O’Heffernan, Host Music FridayLive! Having been raised with the lush harmonies of Crosby, Stills Nash and Young, and even working with Stephen Stills for a little while, I resonate with bands that understand how to construct layered harmony vocals in earworm arrangements – songs that make you hum and sing . American Beauties is a band that does that.  They happily insinuate their music into the soundtrack of your life.  They’re not quite folk, not quite pop, not quite rock and not quite country;  they skillfully blend all these genre’s into something that is greater than the sum of its parts. Rich guitars, gentle bass, steel pedal hints, subtle drum beats and great background vocals enable American Beauties to  paint their lyrical vignettes with skill and grace. It is the kind of music you can put in your playlist to cushion the day. American Beauties is an indie folkrock band that emerged from the Cambridge, Massachusetts music scene a few years ago and has been [Read More]

State Line Empire rocks the Whisky during NAMM week

February 3, 2014

One thing I really enjoy during NAMM week is catching an awesome concert after a long day walking the floors of the Anaheim Convention Center.  During our NAMM week, we had long days and then even longer nights. On Saturday night, right after NAMM closed, we headed down to Hollywood. We got there in time so we could catch our friends in State Line Empire perform.  State Line Empire were playing at the Whisky-A-GoGo for one of their 50th Anniversary shows along with Fault Line, Jetboy and Faster Pussycat. Well, State Line Empire definitely put on a great show that night and even played some of their new songs, especially my favorite; “Raise Your Sins”.  Rockin Ryan was running around photographing the night and he even ran it Jinxx of Black Veil Brides who came out for the show. Ryan asked Jinxx after State Line Empire‘s set about the night and he shared with Ryan how much he loves the Whisky and it’s atmosphere and also how good State Line Empire’s set was!  Of course, [Read More]

Interview with Justin Emord of Love and a .38 at NAMM 2014

January 31, 2014

Another one of our favorite bands that we found at NAMM is Love and a .38. They are truly one of the hardest working bands in Los Angeles and have a tight family (fan) base that extends across the country!  We ran into bassist, Justin Emord at the Hipshot Products booth at NAMM 2014. We were able to grab for a quick interview as he had his bass, Aurora on display. Check out our interview here:   We are excited to head down for Love and a .38’s upcoming show at the Troubadour in Hollywood on February 15th.  Now I think I am going to have to crank up some Love and  a .38 and I know the perfect song…. “Just a Woman”. That song is so bad ass and has such a bluesy classic rock sound to it and I just fell in love with it instantly. It has a great chorus that makes me want to cruise out on the open highway with no worries and my Love and a .38 turned up loud. If you [Read More]

Kris Gruen at the Sanctuary in Santa Monica by Patrick O’Heffernan of Music Friday Live!

January 31, 2014

Kris Gruen at the Sanctuary in Santa Monica Performance 1.24.14  The Sanctuary, just off Main Street in Santa Monica, is one of LA’s little oddities.  During the week it is a small, traditional Christian church.  But one weekend a month the staff clears out the nave, moves the alter and puts out a table in the back with wine, soft drinks, potato chips and a bottle for donations for musicians.  It becomes a local music venue. The artists singing a playing there range from neighborhood garage bands whose day jobs really, really need to be secure, to rising stars staying on the Westside while they pitch other venues around the city and have a Saturday night free to introduce themselves to a Westside audience.  And Westside audiences can be equally diverse: street people who come in for free snacks and entertainment to music junkies looking for the next rising star, to friends of the booked artists. This past Saturday night, The Sanctuary saw the usual audience mix of  locals, music fans and artists’ friends settle [Read More]
