Interview with Madysin Hatter as she is ready to rock your world!

New album, Lose Your Mind out now

Madysin Hatter

I love my Rock and Roll and I just can’t get enough of it these days. But what I really love is when great new bands and artists are busy at keeping the rock torch burning bright and strong. Singer/Songwriter Madysin Hatter truly reigns as the new queen of rock and is ready to ROCK your world with her new full length album, Lose Your Mind. Her 10 song album brings an infectious fusion of classic rock, 80’s hair rock, pop, and modern rock to life. To maintain that raw edge and rich original sound, Madysin did it the “old school rock way” and recorded the album in analog. Lose Your Mind will take you on a rock and roll journey as you can feel the wind blowing in your hair and rock pulsing through your veins. Check out our review of her new album here: Madysin Hatter Lose Your Mind.

Music Junkie Press: Thank you for taking the time out to talk with us here at Music Junkie Press. We have to congratulate you on a fiercely rockin album, Lose Your Mind. Where was the album recorded and whom did you work with on it?

Madysin Hatter (MH):  Thank you so much!!! Lose Your Mind was recorded at The Bunker Studio in Brooklyn, New York. Recording there is always an awesome and inspirational experience for me. My friend, Brad Allen Williams, produced the album, and also co-wrote a few of the songs with me. He’s been playing guitar for most all of my east coast gigs for a few years now, and is playing guitar on the record as well. Also playing on the record are Michael League (bass), Bob Lanzetti (guitar), Cooper Heffley (drums), Grant Zubritsky (bass), and Justin Stanton (keys). I love these guys– they’ve all played live with me a number of times, and also play for other artists. Brad just released a great jazz record. Bob, Michael, and Justin are in the Grammy winning band Snarky Puppy. Cooper just relocated to Nashville, and Grant has been touring with the band MS MR. They all ROCK and I’m really lucky to have such talented friends.

Music Junkie Press: It is great to hear a full album that has the high energy rock that we have been missing for a while. Can you tell us about the inspirations behind this album?

MH: I eat, sleep, and breathe high energy rock. So naturally, that’s what my album had to be. I wanted people to get that same rush of energy that I feel when I listen to Sirius’ Hair Nation, or when I crank up Aerosmith, Guns N’ Roses, or AC/DC on my car radio on a sunny day with the windows down, and the music loud. In that moment in my car, singing along to the radio, I feel so powerful. Like I can do anything. I want people to experience that strength, positivity, and excitement when they listen to Lose Your Mind.

Music Junkie Press:  We love the video for Lose Your Mind, are you working on any upcoming videos?

MH: Yay thank you!! I’m so happy you love it. “Lose My Mind” was a really fun video to shoot. That red wallpaper is actually in my house! I do have another music video shoot booked to support my next single. I kinda want to keep which song is next as a surprise, but if all goes to plan, the new video should be releasing just in time for some fun summertime vibes.

Music Junkie Press:  We understand that you are heading back out here to Hollywood for an upcoming show on April 1st, can you tell us about that one?

MH: I was scheduled to open up for Steven Adler & his band Adler at Whisky A Go Go. Due to circumstances outside of my control, the evening’s line up changed. I’m excited to be back out in Hollywood playing a gig soon. I don’t know exactly when, but soon!

Music Junkie Press:  Your live performance is amazing as you really engage the crowd and get everybody rockin out. Do you feel the energy as it is being returned to you from the audience?  Do you see them putting their phones away and rockin out more? I know we did when saw you at the Cathouse Live battle, we took notice of how the crowd was engaged and “in the moment”.

MH: Thank you. Performing live is one of the most precious and incredible experiences, and it’s one of my favorite things to do in the entire world. When you’re up on stage, you are sharing your soul with strangers, friends, and fans. Together, you all create the performance experience. So being in the moment is crucial! I have never felt more free than when I’m up on stage.

Music Junkie Press:  Do you have any other upcoming plans for tours, or shows?

MH: The next show I have booked is in New Jersey– April 29th I am the opener for Cinderella’s Tom Keifer at the BergenPAC. Can’t wait!

Music Junkie Press: Your song Never Knew is one of my favorites, can you tell me a bit more about that track?

MH: I’m obsessed with 80’s rock music and “hair bands” from the 80’s. Obsessed. And what’s an awesome 80’s band without a killer power ballad? I needed to have a moment on my record where I tipped my hat to that entire genre, because it’s been a huge inspiration to me. A lot of that song was written while I was out in LA, sitting in a booth by myself at The Rainbow on the Sunset Strip, eating my pizza and drinking my wine. That’s one of my time honored traditions whenever I’m out in Los Angeles.

Music Junkie Press:  There was a time when people might have thought Rock is dead, which is so far from the truth. We have been seeing and feeling a great rock resurgence on the rise. Have you noticed that as well?

MH: Rock can never die. Rock is alive and well! I hope everyone reading this will check out my album Lose Your Mind. Here are some other bands to check out and support: Rival Sons, The Temperance Movement, The Compulsions, Biters, PSSR, Dead Heavens, Gin Wigmore, The Sweet Things, The Liza Colby Sound, The Record Company, Monster Truck, Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown, Mother, Gabbie Rae, Syka, We Are Harlot, The Soft White Sixties, The Dirty Pearls, Jennie Vee, The Eeries, Vintage Trouble…I can keep going!

Music Junkie Press:  Your songs ROCK but you also bring some great lyrical content. Do you have a particular writing process to achieve that?

MH: Thank you!! I write every single day. I’ve been keeping journals since sophomore year of high school.

Music Junkie Press: Today so many music programs are being taken away from school budgets, did you have a strong music education in your school? How old were you when you really got the music bug?

MH: I was so fortunate to have a very strong music education program in my public school. Growing up in Livingston, New Jersey, I played piano, flute, and violin– all of which were taught through various school programs. I was also involved in several choral groups, and the school musicals. In high school, I took Music Theory and AP Music Theory…from what I understand, those courses aren’t even offered in some schools! From kindergarten, I always had great music teachers and programs at my disposal. Perhaps I didn’t realize how lucky I was at the time, but looking back I can’t imagine my school life  (or life life) without all of these amazing experiences. They are so important, whether or not kids end up pursuing a career in music!!! So important.

Music Junkie Press: Who were some of your biggest influences?

MH: Steven and Stevie. Aerosmith and Fleetwood Mac. Easily my top two. Not far behind would be Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC, and Nirvana. Loads more. My biggest non-real influences would all be characters from the 80’s cartoon Jem and the Holograms. Truth be told, that show is what got me hooked on songwriting and singing. Still obsessed.

Music Junkie Press: If you could pick the perfect tour, what three bands would you have with you on it?

MH: Aerosmith, Guns N’ Roses, Rival Sons, and Madysin Hatter.

Music Junkie Press:  Lastly, is there anything you would like to share with our audience and your fans?

MH: Please show your support and buy my album Lose Your Mind. It’s available worldwide on iTunes, and hard copies are available in my merch store www.MadysinHatter.bigcartel.com. Speaking of which, I’ve got some cool T-shirts, hats, posters, you name it available in the merch store too!
