Today Marshall Records’ new signing sensation Gen and the Degenerates unveil their brand new single “Wild Thing”. Following the release of the previous single “Underwear” earlier in 2021 the band is set to take 2022 by storm.

The song combines the band’s signature swagger with a catchy and immediate chorus. The band delivers a blend of Rock & Punk with a modern touch to create a lasting impact and promise to be one of the hottest acts of 2022. The video shot by Ben Roberts chronicles in Gen’s own words “the villain origin story of a chaotic bi-sexual Rockstar”.

Regarding the track frontperson Gen Degenerate had the following to say:

“On the 22nd of April 1966 The Troggs released their version of the song ‘Wild Thing’… On the 16th of November 1996 I was born and my mum repurposed it as a lullaby. She sang it to me each night to send me to sleep and I can’t help but think this might have something to do with how I turned out the way I did. This song is inspired by that. It’s both a celebration and confession of the untamed or unconventional sides of my character that life and other people have tried to squeeze out of me. My intensity, my queerness, my complete inability to march to anyone else’s drummer. I hope that everyone else who has a little streak of something wild in them can feel at home in it too”.

With the accuracy of Funk, the swagger of Rock ‘n’ Roll and the rebellious edge of Punk “Wild Thing” reminds the world just how important understanding yourself truly is.

At the heart of Gen and the Degenerates though lies the message. The most important element to the band’s music. Second to only to the importance of inclusivity, no matter your gender, beliefs and with their broad array of influences, even music! No matter who you are there’s always a welcome home for anyone in the world of Gen and the Degenerates.

The definition of commitment is getting something tattooed on you, and that’s what Gen and the Degenerates have done. They believe deeply in the beautifully riotous noise they’re making, so much so that the whole band went for matching tattoos. Landing somewhere between Joan Jett and IDLES, Gen and the Degenerates have a true commitment to the sound of what they’re creating.

It’s this dedication and determination that fuels some of their songs. Most of them met through school and college, they then moved to Liverpool and found their “final piece of the puzzle” who came in the form of lead singer Gen. Gen says for the most part it happened when they were drunk: “We used to record rough versions of songs with me stood in a cupboard in Jay’s room with a blanket over my head. It’s the rock’n’roll dream! We accidentally wrote a song and realized we actually might have something here”.

“The pandemic made me realise how many eggs I’ve put in this one basket” says Gen. “This is my creative outlet, my work, my social life, my best friends, my therapy. It was definitely a scary moment realising how much I’ve put into this… and I wouldn’t change a thing. I just can’t wait to get back to it”.

Jay talks about the pandemic with a positive attitude: “It offered up creative avenues. We’ve written so much material“. Gen interjects excitedly: “and we got signed! In a pandemic! That’s something to always remember”. The band were picked up by Marshall Records, and say it’s a pinch themselves moment. It wasn’t quite the massive party they’d imagined or taking some photos in a nice office, but instead they signed contracts in their bedrooms and drank wine together on Zoom.

Gen comments “We want world domination. That’s a statement of intent”. Tattoos are optional, but Gen and the Degenerates want you as part of the family and they’re not here to mess around. Are you in?
