Kawehi at the Hotel Café: smiles, trash talk and a loop machine.

March 30, 2016

(Hollywood) When Kawehi comes on stage it is her smile that first grabs you.  It’s a friendship smile…she is happy to be there and she is happy to be there with you – yes, you.  This is not just a gig supporting her new Kickstarter-funded album, Interaktiv; this is 250 friends kicking back and having a great time with their favorite artist in a sold-out concert at the Hotel Café Friday night.   Kawehi navigated her way around various pieces of musical equipment and technological gear as she came onstage, but all the while she kept that smile.  After getting settled in front of her keyboards, loop machines and computers, she greeted friends and fans with waves and shout outs.  We  were hooked, even before she played the first  note.   When she did play that first note, we were more than hooked; we were ecstatic.  She set the hook with “Smoke Screens”, launching a trap beat and then dancing around the stage, checking the connection to her guitar, putting her magic hands on the [Read More]

Concert Review of Parkway Drive, Architects, Thy Art is Murder in Munich by Alex Bock

January 28, 2016

Parkway Drive, Architects, Thy Art Is Murder Zenith, Munich, Jan. 23rd, 2016   So Parkway Drive payed Munich a visit last weekend. It was the 2nd date on their tour through Germany promoting their latest record ‘Ire’. They brought two bands along. The opener of the show was Thy Art Is Murder from Sydney, Australia. Their vocalist CJ McMahon left the band only a few weeks ago. He is replaced by Nick Arthur (Molotov Solution) for now. Searching through the web, there’s already talk about a new vocalist, but nothing is officially confirmed yet. Compared to the other two bands, they were the heaviest that night. Second band that night were Architects from the UK. Almost throughout the whole set the stage was drenched in blue light, sometimes there were stroboscope’s added to that. Light wise a bit of a dark set, for the camera as much as for the audience. Didn’t take long for Sam Carter to get the crowd going, encouraging circle pits and the infamous wall of death. Architects, that played a [Read More]

Devin Townsend Project finishes up tour with Animals as Leaders in San Francisco

December 20, 2014

Devin Townsend just finished up a tour with Animals as Leaders and Monuments earlier this week in San Francisco. The tour wrapped up at The Regency Ballroom and you can check out photos of the set from our contributing photographer, Brian Kirksey. It has been quite a busy year for Devin with his highly successful release of his double album,  Z² earlier and a lot of touring. Devin shared about his busy year, ” Hey all, Dev here…closing out the North American tour and a heck of a year.  I released 4 albums this year, if you count the bonus disc of Casualties, went through the crazy Pledge process (still going through it) and it was generally a hectic time.  I feel like I’m at the end of a creative cycle… The Z2 project beat me up in a way I wasn’t expecting, but when all was said and done, I’m very proud of it. It’s an accurate description of a really stressful period, but I didn’t sell out, and I saw it through. Thanks [Read More]

Palisades at Assembly Music Hall in Sacramento for the Not Your American Idols Tour

October 24, 2014

Earlier this week we braved the 3+ hour traffic to Sacramento and did get there in time to catch Palisades hit the stage at the Assembly Music Hall. This was our first time at the new Assembly, but it was great to see that it is under the same ownership/management as our fave Sacramento stop, Ace of Spades. The staff was exceptional and the venue set up is ideal for a crowd to feel the energy from the stage. Palisades definitely delivered on the energy! They got the crowd engaged and ready to rage. The intimate atmosphere really allowed for the crowd to feed off the artist’s vibe. There was no one left standing still when Palisades took the stage. Their music brings the perfect fusion of EDM and Post-hardcore an inviting style that appealed to all. One drawback is the extremely dark venue and the little to no lighting which even at 6400 iso, it was tough to catch any good shots. Check out the photos from their set: Palisades have a couple more [Read More]

Falling in Reverse shines at Warped Tour 2014

July 27, 2014

Here we are coming down to the last week of Vans Warped Tour 2014. What a tour it has been and so many great bands have performed. We featured many awesome artists and tonight we want to bring you our coverage of one of our top highlights of 2014 Warped Tour. Of course, it goes to Falling in Reverse which is no surprise because every time we have seen them perform, they exceed our expectations, continuously raising the bar of entertainment for others. They truly shine when they are on the stage! I think this must have been the 8th and 9th time seeing them perform in only a couple years and each time was better than the next. This was the first time seeing Max Green play bass in Falling in Reverse and he did a bass ass job. In case you missed it before, check out our interview with Max shortly after he announced he was joining Falling in Reverse: One of the reasons that Falling in Reverse is so damn fun is because of [Read More]
