Throwback Thursday Music Feature is The Spent Poets

November 21, 2013

We all have our photos of us ready for Throwback Thursday filled with big hair, 80’s outfits, MC Hammer pants, flashdance shirts and so much more…. But what about the music? We need to have a Throwback Thursday Music Feature and here it is…. our first one. For my Throwback Thursday Music, is none other than The Spent Poets. I LOVED THIS BAND! I used to hang out at Paradise Lounge and DNA Lounge in San Francisco during the late ’80s and early ’90s and that is how I first found out about them. I think I first saw them when they were playing at the DNA Lounge and I picked up their self titled debut CD. Every single song became my fave. They had such a unique sound! I used to hear the story of how they started by Adam Gates and Matt Winegar making homemade tapes that eventually got in the hands of Matt Wallace who had produced Faith No More. Then they added John Berg on keyboards, Derek Greenberg on bass and [Read More]

DRAMARAMA to play at Whisky-a-Go-Go 50th Anniversary Party!

November 16, 2013

Earlier this year we brought you an interview with one of the most influential bands of my life, DRAMARAMA. You can check ou that interview here. As I said in that post, “Music has been my passenger on my rollercoaster ride of my life, with me during my highs and there to comfort me during my lows. No matter what mood I was in, music was always there to share in the moment. So many times when someone mentions an artist or a band, I can go back and remember the first time I heard them or how I was introduced to their music. It is almost like when someone asks you about how you met an old friend or boyfriend. You always know the facts.” You can read about the first time I ever heard Dramarama. What is exciting is that Dramarama is set to play at one of The Whisky-a-Go-Go for their 50th Anniversary shows. They will be playing on Sunday, January 12th, 2014! Make sure to pick up your tickets to this incredible [Read More]

The Pretty Reckless release incredible new song, Heaven Knows!

November 15, 2013

I just got back from running errands and I had a very special treat! I had the opportunity to listen to the new song by The Pretty Reckless, “Heaven Knows”. They debuted the song this morning on Sirius XM Octane channel (funny since I cancelled by XM last month because they cancelled Sixx Sense channel and I still get it free for the next month). DAMN this song is AMAZING!  It has an old school rock circa Joan Jett/Runaways vibe and the catchiest sing along part on the air today. The song will become available for purchase on Itunes on Tuesday November 19th! Taylor has truly proven to be a Rock Goddess that is on top of the charts these days. The song comes off their upcoming album, Going To Hell which is scheduled for a 2014 release date.  The Pretty Reckless released a video for their first song off the album, “Going To Hell” and that is a badass song. You can actually download “Going To Hell” on Itunes now here.  Check out the video here: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmtbg5b7_Aw&feature=youtu.be] [Read More]

Another Lost Year release new video and it will have you begging for more!

November 13, 2013

One of my favorite bands, Another Lost Year, rockers from North Carolina have done it again! Last year, my favorite song of the year was owned by them… “War On The Inside”. It still makes me rock out and smile when it pops up on  my playlist. It is a bad ass mother f*&@ker fist pumping song!   Well I think they might have done it again. They have just released their video for their new song, “The End of You and I” and DAMN THIS SONG IS AWESOME!! Check out the video here: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIjQX9YK-9M&feature=youtu.be]   The video is awesome too because you really get to see these fun guys in their element; performing. You can really tell that they love performing, the fans, and just playing music that KICKS ASS! One thing about this band is they are such hard working guys who perform non-stop. Their live shows are some of the best in the industry and I have yet to see them, which makes me soooo jealous!  I can’t wait for them to [Read More]

The Yellow Dogs tragic shooting/suicide by ex bandmate

November 11, 2013

Music for me always represents a way to deal with emotions ranging from hate, anger to love and bliss. I think with  music, my hope is we all can come together and can eradicate the hate and violence that is in this world today. It is sad to hear about the tragic fatal shooting of three band members of The Yellow Dogs from Iran. This indie punk/rock band relocated from Iran and settled into Brooklyn, seeking more musical freedom and they had been quite successful at getting their high energy music out there. Recently, one of the band members who was kicked out of the band, returned to their apartment at 318 Maujer St, Brookly, NY and fatally shot the three remaining band members.Another member has been shot but is in stable condition in the hospital. Names have not been released of the gunman or the victims. The band members were reportedly shot and the shooter was found on the roof with a self inflicted gun shot to the head, with a rifle by his [Read More]
