BrainStorm (Prata Vetra) from Latvia is our Tuesdays Travel band to check out!

August 13, 2013

BrainStorm I am sure you thought it was getting late and I was not going to give you my Tusdays Travel band to check out…. Well I might be late due to recuperating from the car accident over the weekend but I didn’t want you to miss this band!! Straight from Jelgava, Latvia is a fun alternative rock band, BrainStorm (Latvian: Prāta Vētra)   that you have to take a listen to. Definitely not a new band. This band is a strong group of friends who had a dream to play music and in 1989 set out to conquer the hearts of music lovers. Their music which has sounds reminiscent of Parlotones, ColdPlay, even U2,  but yet they have something so new and fresh to them that I just can’t put my finger on.  They have catchy melody fused with passionate vocals and an energetic sound that becomes infectious. Here is a great fun video for their song, “Europa” which I love:   If you ever watched Eurovision, you might have caught them in 2000 as they placed [Read More]

August 5, 2013

Our very own San Francisco favorite singer/songrwriter Peter London has a new CD coming out that I wanted to tell you more about.  Peter is an avid animal lover and is using his gift of music to raise awareness and funds for a refuge animal center.  He has such a great heart and I look for all of us to join in and help support the no-kill animal shelters.  First I want you to check out an acoustic version of one of my all time Peter London favorites: Run Away. Doesn’t that voice just blow you away. Truly  a work of art! We were able to briefly interview Peter and here is that interview for you: * * * * * * * * * * * * Doesn’t that voice just blow you away. Check out The Wearies from San Francisco!

April 18, 2013

I have to tell you about this great new band from San Francisco, The Wearies. They remind me of a modern day improved version of the Byrds fronted by Elvis Costello.  You have the feel good energy flowing and you just can’t sit back and listen; you have to MOVE! You can definitely call them a fun rock band with just the right amount of pop blended in for good measure. Truly a musical fusion you are going to enjoy similar to another one of my all time favorites, Joe Jackson. The Wearies has Erik Mullins on vocals and guitar, Robbie Martinez on lead guitar, Kevin Michael on Bass and Adam Monroe on drums.  I really hope to catch this band soon since I am already singing along to their songs that I listen to on their website.  You will love America Miss, where they truly shine with their edgy pop/new wave sound.  Here is a video fro that song: If you are lucky enough to live near San Francisco, you can catch them at their [Read More]

Kick it into high gear with Katalina Kicks!

April 11, 2013

Shhhh…. I have a confession to make… Many of you have known me for my absolute LOVE and ADORATION of Heavy and Hard Rock and Roll but I must confess…..Long ago, there was a time in my wonderful teens and 20’s where I would take breaks from my Hard Rock life to head to San Francisco and catch my fix of Alternative Rock/Grunge-Punk. Oh how I miss those days, but you know what??? I have found a band that just brings all those great memories back…. No, they are not trying to make a comeback from the late 70’s or reinvent themselves from the late 90’s. The best part is they are a current band and you are going to LOVE them!!! Hailing from West London is the effervescent trio of Katalina Kicks! These three guys pack a punch of energy, attitude and just pure raw fun. You can’t help but move to them and just let the energy flow through your veins. Their music just catapults to the next level of adrenaline which is [Read More]

The music of Matthew Stewart heals my soul

February 11, 2013

I know I have been quite busy since coming back from NAMM and working on the Online Magazine, but I also have been quite busy taking care of my 79 year old mother, who has been battling Parkinson’s Disease for the past 15 years. The hardest part has been the last year, since my father passed away from cancer. Watching her includes me staying with her for two to three days a week, all day, and it is exhausting in many ways. She has at times become quite irritated, cranky, and hard to be around. Well, this past weekend was my time to be with my mother from Friday morning until Sunday morning. With Sunday morning being my birthday, I was going to spend the day with my family afterwards. Well, it was anything but peaceful, and unfortunately my time with my Mom was harder than ever, trying to deal with not being able to make her comfortable, to actually try to calm her down from her anger and frustration. It was a brutal 48 [Read More]
