“Play from the heart.” Inspiring words to live by Dean Zimmer

If you ever doubt yourself or think you can’t do something, then it is time to take a look at the amazing work of Dean Zimmer. People may know him as the handicapped drummer who answered a “Drummer Wanted” Ad. After watching Dean play, there is no way I could describe him as handicapped or disabled, because he truly can do anything he wants. It just may take a bit longer. Dean was born with a rare congenital disorder but that has not stopped him from pursuing his dream of drumming. Film makers Ross Harris and Stanley Gonzales wanted to share the story about Dean and they directed an inspiring video to share his story. Tonight I was going back and watching some awesome video from Sting’s 60th Birthday Concert from 2011. The highlight of the concert for me was watching one of my favorite Brat Pack actors singing a duet with Sting. Robert Downey Jr. sang “Driven To Tears” with Sting. Thirsty Thursday spotlight is White Chocolate Thunder from Canada

Here we are on another Thursday which means our weekly spotlight on a new band that is thirsty for rock n roll! This week the band is White Chocolate Thunder and they are from Calgary, Alberta Canada. They are four guys who have a great rock/pop/punk feel to them. I hate placing them in a genre or category… so put it this way…. they fucking rock and have great energy and good songs! You have Johnny Molyneaux on Vocals and he reminds me of a young Chris Robinson of Black Crowes. His vocals are awesome. Then you have the fierce Jordan Tavares on Guitar and the energetic Braaeden Riehl on Bass. Behind it all and bringing it home with solid drumming is Tanner Statham. You all know that I love cover songs, particularly hybrid or unconventional cover songs. Those that completely have someone take the song and truly make it their own. They are imitating or covering a song like you might find during happy hour at the nightclubs. This is a cover that completely takes on a new life. Last month I wrote about Ben Draiman, brother of David DraimAn of Disturbed and Device and how Ben did an amazing cover of Disturbed’s song Stricken. You can read more about that here. Interview with SpiralArms and SF show highlights

Last Friday, we had the pleasure of catching SpiralArms as they opened up for Steel Panther at The Regency Ballroom in San Francisco. One thing about a Steel Panther show is everybody is ready to ROCK and have some fun! So it was awesome to see Bay Area local band, SpiralArms take over the stage and literally captured the crowd. SpiralArms is a six piece band and they literally create an amazingly complete sound. With the addition of a keyboardist and second guitarist which is often missed, you really get to hear the layers in their music and it just adds so much texture and depth to their sound. They are definitely one of the hottest contemporary rock bands out there and their live performances will completely ROCK YOU! Their unique sound might remind you of a blend of Soundgarden and Black Sabbath which is a damn good combination!
